If you’re looking for a fun and family-friendly stay at Alton Towers, the Big Pyjama Room at the Alton Towers Hotel offers a unique and whimsical experience. Designed around the idea of a giant sleepover, this room is packed with playful details, making it a brilliant choice for families. We recently stayed here for the Alton Towers 2025 season opening weekend, so here’s everything you need to know before booking.

First Impressions

The Big Pyjama Room is located inside the Alton Towers Hotel, which is themed around the fictional explorer Sir Algenon and his incredible adventures. As soon as we arrived, the hotel was buzzing with excitement, lit up green to celebrate the launch of the brand-new ride, Toxicator. The atmosphere alone made it feel like a special experience from the moment we walked in.

Finding the room was an adventure in itself, as this part of the hotel is full of quirky, themed rooms. The doors along the corridor give little hints about each room’s theme, and by the time we reached Room 508, we were all excited to see what was inside.
Inside the Big Pyjama Room

Walking in, the first thing you notice is the hot air balloon bed, which is the centrepiece of the room. It’s designed to look like the basket of a balloon, giving it a magical, floating-away-to-dreamland feel. The theming carries across every corner, from the wallpaper to the furniture, creating a fun, cosy space that’s perfect for families.
Sleeping Arrangements

This room is designed to sleep up to six people, with a mix of options to suit families:

- Main Bed – A large, comfortable double bed with themed feature lamps on either side, perfect for parents.
- Themed Kids’ Bed – Instead of a bunk bed, there’s a beautiful canopy-style single bed, which feels like its own cosy little den. Underneath, there’s a pull-out single bed, making it ideal for siblings.
- Sofa Bed – The sofa converts into a double bed, offering even more sleeping space if you have a larger group.

Our children loved the sleeping setup, especially the themed bed, which felt like its own little adventure. If you’re visiting with younger children, the pull-out bed is a great option to keep them close while still giving them their own space.
Room Features and Amenities
The room has plenty of thoughtful touches to make your stay comfortable:

- Storage Space – Two large wardrobes provide ample storage for bags, coats, and extra bedding. There’s also a dressing table and plenty of surface space for keeping things organised.
- Entertainment – A flat-screen TV is positioned perfectly for watching from the sofa or main bed.
- Mini-Fridge – Stocked with complimentary water and chocolate buttons, which was a lovely touch.
- Tea & Coffee Facilities – A kettle, mugs, and a selection of tea and coffee are provided.
- Activity Packs for Kids – Included in the room are fun activity packs to help keep the children entertained during your stay.
- Fun Sound Machine – One of the quirkiest features of the room is the themed sound machine, which adds to the immersive experience.
Bathroom
The bathroom continues the fun theme but keeps things practical for families. There’s a bath with a shower overhead, which is ideal if you have little ones who still prefer a bath. The double sinks are great for families, making morning and evening routines much easier when everyone is getting ready at the same time.
Breakfast and Dinner at the Secret Garden Restaurant

Breakfast is included with your stay at the Alton Towers Hotel, and it’s served at the Secret Garden Restaurant.

Breakfast is an all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet, offering a wide selection of hot and cold options, from cooked breakfast favourites like bacon, eggs, and sausages to pastries, cereals, fruit, and yoghurt. There are also plenty of options for children, making it an easy and relaxed way to start the day before heading into the park.

Dinner is also available at the Secret Garden Restaurant at an additional charge. If you’d like to dine here in the evening, you can book in advance via the Alton Towers website to secure your preferred time.
A Few Things to Consider
While we absolutely loved the Big Pyjama Room, there are a couple of things to keep in mind when booking:
- Noise Levels – The Alton Towers Hotel has brilliant entertainment in the evenings, which is fantastic if you want to enjoy the lively atmosphere. However, because of the room’s location, you can hear some of the music and activities from downstairs. If you’re planning on heading to bed early, or you have young children who are light sleepers, Splash Landings Hotel or The Enchanted Village might be quieter options.
- Booking Early – As one of the themed rooms, the Big Pyjama Room is a popular choice. If you’re planning a stay during peak times, it’s best to book well in advance.
Final Thoughts – Is It Worth Booking?
The Big Pyjama Room is a fantastic option if you want to turn your Alton Towers trip into a full-on adventure. It’s fun, practical for families, and makes the stay feel even more magical. If your children love immersive hotel stays, this is definitely worth considering.
Would we stay here again? Absolutely. The theming, space, and extra touches made it a memorable experience for our family. If you’re visiting Alton Towers Resort and want a hotel stay that’s as much a part of the trip as the theme park itself, the Big Pyjama Room is a brilliant choice.
