Before we stayed at Alton Towers for the first time, I knew the children would love the theme park — and the waterpark sounded brilliant — but I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from the accommodation. We’ve previously stayed in both the Enchanted Village and the Alton Towers Hotel, and this time we were invited back on a press trip to stay in Splash Landings Hotel. It absolutely did not disappoint. If you’re planning a trip and wondering whether the hotel is worth booking — especially with children or a neurodiverse family — I hope sharing our experience helps.

First Impressions of Splash Landings Hotel
The moment you step inside Splash Landings Hotel, it feels like you’ve been transported somewhere sunny and seaside-inspired. There’s bright theming everywhere, steel drums playing in the background, and a really relaxed, almost beachy atmosphere. It’s definitely designed with families in mind — there’s no pressure to be quiet or formal, which I found really comforting with four children in tow.
We arrived before our room was ready, which wasn’t a problem at all. You’re able to leave your bags at reception and head straight into the waterpark or the resort. In our case, I took the opportunity to have a behind-the-scenes tour of the waterpark for the vlog, and then we collected our keys and headed up to the room.
Family Room Tour: What’s Included
We stayed in one of the family rooms, which slept all six of us comfortably.
The space is set up with a double bed for the grown-ups and bunk beds for the children, with an additional pull-out bed underneath if you need it.

The room was themed to match the tropical feel of the hotel — bright colours, nautical decorations, and fun details everywhere. There was a little TV at the end of the bunk beds that the children absolutely loved, and plenty of storage space for all of our bags and outfits.

The hotel is clean, colourful, and completely geared towards children — which, let’s face it, is what you want from a stay at a theme park resort. There’s also free Wi-Fi, a kettle, a hairdryer, and a good-sized bathroom with both a bath and a shower.
Breakfast at Flambo’s Jambo

Breakfast was included in our stay, and we booked it for the first morning after check-in.
Flambo’s Jambo is the main restaurant inside Splash Landings Hotel, and it’s buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner.

The breakfast spread was brilliant — lots of options for all kinds of eaters. There was a full cooked breakfast selection (sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, beans), plus a continental section with toast, pastries, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, and juices.

The coffee was self-serve, and there were high chairs and family seating throughout.

What I really liked was how relaxed the environment was. We didn’t feel rushed, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and there was space to move around even when it got busy. For families who are navigating sensory needs, this kind of environment makes such a difference. You don’t feel on edge trying to keep everyone calm and quiet — the space is designed for noisy, happy children.

Dinner At Flambo’s Jambo

Dinner at Flambo’s Jambo isn’t included in the standard stay — it’s an optional extra, so you’ll need to book and pay separately if you want to eat there. We went for dinner on our second evening and found it really good value for families.

There was a big buffet selection — pasta, pizza, chips, roasted vegetables, rice, salads, meat and veggie dishes — plus a dessert section that included cakes, mousse, fruit, and ice cream.

If you’re planning to eat at Flambo’s Jambo, definitely book ahead to get the time you want. And don’t forget — you’re not limited to eating at your hotel’s restaurant. You can make dinner reservations at any of the restaurants across the resort, so have a browse and see what suits your family best.

Benefits of Staying Onsite
One of the perks of staying at an Alton Towers Resort hotel is that you sometimes get early access to the theme park — perfect if you want to get ahead of the queues. There’s also a dedicated hotel guest entrance near Galactica. If you walk past the Monorail station and follow a short path, you’ll find it. You’ll need to show proof that you’re staying at one of the resort hotels, but it’s a really handy shortcut and helps you beat the crowds.
Merlin Annual Pass Tips
If you’re a Merlin Annual Pass holder, make sure you book your Alton Towers short break through the Merlin Annual Pass site — you can save up to 20% on your stay. It’s also worth remembering to show your pass when you’re paying for food, drinks, or merchandise across the resort, as you can get an additional discount at most locations.
Accessibility and Family-Friendliness
As a mum of four children with autism, accessibility and sensory considerations are always top of mind for me. Splash Landings Hotel, like the rest of the resort, is very family-focused and makes a real effort to accommodate a wide range of needs.
There are lifts to all floors, accessible rooms available to book, and helpful signage throughout. The vibe is loud and lively, but not overwhelming — it feels like a space designed for real families, not perfection. The staff were lovely and understanding throughout our stay, and we never felt rushed or judged, even when we needed to take things a bit slower.
If you have sensory needs in your family, it’s worth knowing that the hotel restaurants and entertainment spaces can get busy and a bit noisy, particularly in the evenings. We always bring ear defenders with us just in case — Zara needed hers at dinner one night, but managed without them most of the time. The nice thing is, no one bats an eye. Everyone’s just doing their best, and that atmosphere makes such a difference.
Final Thoughts
We really enjoyed our stay at Splash Landings Hotel. It’s not about luxury, but it is about convenience, comfort, and fun — and in those areas, it absolutely delivers. The theming is spot on for children, the family rooms are well thought out, and the food was far better than I expected for a buffet restaurant inside a theme park hotel.
If you’re heading to Alton Towers with children, especially if you’re navigating additional needs, Splash Landings Hotel is a great choice. It simplifies the logistics of your trip, keeps everything under one roof, and adds to the magical atmosphere of the whole resort.
