Only wear it if it’s clean
Would you put on dirty underwear? Um, no. It’s the same for a dirty face mask, just don’t do it.
Don’t touch or adjust it – especially not in public!
Fiddling with your facemark is just like fiddling with your underwear, not a good idea and definetely frowned upon..
Do not lend or borrow
Face masks and underwear definitely fall under the “personal” items that you don’t want to be sharing.
Make sure it’s a comfortable fit
Think of Goldilocks, you don’t want it too loose or too tight, make sure that the fit is just right.
Wear it the right side out
Inside out underwear? No. Inside out face mask? Also no.
If it’s dirty, change it
We don’t want to be wearing dirty ones, that can’t be good.
If it’s damp change it
Ditto with damp – yuck.
If it’s stained, throw it away
Please don’t wear stained face masks or underwear, you deserve better than that.
Once you’ve worn it, it’s time for a clean one
You have more than one set of underwear, right? For when some is in the laundry? Same with face masks. If you’re going to put on a clean one every day, you’re going to need at least one on and one in the wash.
How to take off you face mask
Now that it’s time to take off your face mask, you’re going to want to treat it less like your own underwear and more like a baby’s cloth nappy.
- Wash your hands – you would never change your baby’s nappy with dirty hands, and you don’t want to be touching your face with dirty hands either.
- Take it off from the front to the back – no analogy here I’m afraid, it’s just what you have to do.
- Treat it as if it’s full of germs – if you removed a cloth nappy from a baby, it would probably be full of wee and poop. Pretend your face mask is the same. Don’t sling it in your laundry hamper with the rest of your clothes, keep it separate and where no one will touch it before it goes in the washing machine.
- Wash it & dry it before you wear it – the CDC says that washing your face mask in the washing machine as you would any other item of clothing should clean it sufficiently.
