Are you looking for some uplifting TV shows to watch? A show that will really cheer you up? Look no further, as I have compiled a handy list of shows to pick you up and put a smile on your face.
Table Of Contents
Friends
Friends was only supposed to run for one season when it started with a cast of unknowns back in the 90’s. It went on to become a cultural phenomenon and the cast have recently announced that they will be getting back together for a reunion show! What better way to prepare than by binge watching every single episode from the start?
Modern Family
Modern family is a mockumentary about a blended extended family. Follow these colourful characters over 11 seasons that are guaranteed to make you smile.
Parks & Recreation
Parks & Recreation is another mockumentary about a perky pubic service worker and her team of misfits. The first episode is a little slow starting, but stick with it and you’re sure to find this infectiously funny series quite addictive. This is the series that brings you “Galantines Day” and “Treat Yo Self” – phrases that have become ingrained in pop culture.
The Good Place
The Good Place has been heralded as “the sit-com redefined”. In the first episode, we meet Elenor Shellstrop. She is dead and, thanks to a mix-up, finds herself accidentally in the “Good Place” even though she doesn’t belong there. The whole show is hysterical but also manages to tackle philosophical issues and be quite thought-provoking too.
Glee
Glee is a musical extravaganza, filled with show stopping versions of your favourite pop songs. If you need a healthy does of uplifting music sprinkled with comedy, this is the show for you.
How I Met Your Mother
How I Met Your Mother is a story told by a father to his teenage children of his life before they were born up to the point that he met their mother. This show is easy watching light-hearted comedy, perfect for switching on when you raaly need to switch off.
Friday Night Dinner
One of the boys from the Inbetweeners stars as one of the 2 adult sons that visits his parents for dinner every Friday evening. The show makes light out of the ordinary, plus manages to shock with cringe-worthy comedy guaranteed to have you laughing out loud.
Jane The Virgin
An innocent Catholic virgin & telenovela loving young woman living in Miami manages to get artificially inseminated and winds up pregnant. This comedy is as colourful as they come, and the comedy is peppered with twists and cliffhangers too, making it perfect cheer me up TV.
Ugly Betty
Betty is an enthusiastic, sartorially challenged, aspiring writer that somehow lands a job in one of America’s top fashion magazines. Think “The Devil Wears Prada” meets “Jane The Virgin” – it’s crazy and heartwarming all at once.
Sex & The City
Hands up if you watched Sex and The City in the 90’s and just wanted to be Carrie! I loved the idea of being a writer just like her (a blogger is close enough, right?). If you need a little pick me up, why not binge watch all of the original Sex and The City episodes for fun, frolics and fashion.
Downton Abbey
Now Downtown Abbey should technically belong in my TV Dramas To Binge Watch list, but I’ve included it here because it’s an escape to another era, the beauty of which really is good for the soul. Follow the Crawford family, the Lords & Ladies of the manor, navigate changing times in an ever modernising world. The best lines belong to the Dowager Countess played by Maggies Smith, who steals the show with her pithy one liners.
Orange Is The New Black
A middle class white girl from Connecticut finds herself suddenly in prison for a crime that she committed while backpacking nearly a decode ago. This show is a drama, but also one of the funniest comedies that will shock and cheer you up all at once.
Santa Clarita Diet
This one sounds a bit odd, so bare with me. Drew Barrymore is fantastic as a realtor in LA that accidentally becomes a zombie. Rather than a horror, this is another laugh out loud comedy, as the family attempt to stay “normal” in spite of the craziness.
The Windsors
The Windsors is an extremely entertaining parody of the Royal Family in recent years, perfect escapism when you need it.
