Are you looking for some gripping TV dramas to get into watching? If you are in desperate need of a drama show with multiple seasons available to binge watch in one go, look no further.
Table Of Contents
Grey’s Anatomy
Grey’s Anatomy is one of my favourite shows ever. Grey’s follows a group of medical interns through the highs and lows of their drama-filled hospital residencies. The show is funny, gripping dramatic and heartwarming all at once. Warning – you will become addicted. Be prepared for some serious binge-watching. You’ll basically feel ready to step into the OR yourself when you have finished.
How To Get Away With Murder
If you like Grey’s, you’ll love another How To Get Away With Murder which is another Shonda Rhymes creation. HTGAWM is a little darker than greys, but still benefits from the same amazing writing (a true fan will spot the dialogue style straight away), but with even more twists and turns and a lot more mystery.
Game Of Thrones
I was super late to the party when it came to Game Of Thrones, convinced that I would hate it. When I finally succumbed to peer pressure and gave it a go, after the first few episodes (which were pretty complicated and I felt I needed a study guide for) I was completely hooked. It was so good, that once I’d finished every episode of every season, I went back and watched it again (and at least then those first episode made more sense).
Game Of Thrones is set in the mythical kingdom of Westoros, where self proclaimed rulers from different corners of the “7 kingdoms” make their claim for the “Iron Throne” that rules all.
Be prepared for saying “no, surely they can’t kill him off, he’s a main character” then watching that same character be decapitated / disembowelled / murdered in some other horrific way. A lot.
Also be prepared for excessive violence, nudity and swearing, but if you can manage not to be offended by all of that, you will LOVE Game Of Thrones.
The Bodyguard
The Bodyguard is an absolutely brilliant British drama from the BBC where an ex soldier becomes head of security for the secretary of state when her life is under threat. The Bodyguard will have you on the edge of your seat (and it doesn’t hurt that Richard Madden is a total hunk in it either). So far there is only one season of this available (unlike my other picks in this list), but rumour has it there is another on the way.
The Good Doctor
This Good Doctor is another medical drama, with he male lead being on the autism spectrum. He has a brilliant mind, yet struggles with social cues. The series looks at how having ASD brings up different challenges for a medical resident.
Chicago Med
A spin-off of Chicago Fire and Chicago PD (neither of which I have seen), Chicago Med is another drama packed medical series which I love and I am sure you will too.
Big Little Lies
Big Little Lies boasts an impressive cast including Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. The series is set in a seemingly sleepy town where very little happens, until the truth os uncovered. This brilliant series is packed full of mystery and is highly recommended.
9-1-1
9-1-1 centres around the calls to emergency services. It follows those calls as they are answered and passed onto Station 118 of the fire service (who are also paramedics) who come to the rescue. It stars Peter Krause as the station captain with a secret. It’s full of drama but has lots of light and funny moments too.
You
You is an amazing thriller that follows a psychotic stalker turned killer. It does a brilliant job of “justifying” everything that the star / villain does and even makes you feel empathy for him. The series is truly addictive. There are 2 seasons available and another on the way.
Prison Break
Prison Break is the story of 2 bothers, one always in trouble with the law then wrongly sentenced to die for murder and the other who is sent to prison on purpose in order to break him out. This is a highly addictive drama that will have you binge-watching into the early hours from the edge of your seat.
Lost
Lost about a mysterious plane crash on an uncharted island, which has more mysteries around every corner. It has flashbacks to really develop the characters and expose more of their stories, with one character’s life before the accident being the main feature of each episode. If you saw it when it originally aired, it’s well worth another watch.
Doctor Foster
Dr Foster is a BBC drama about a seemingly happy couple, until the wife discovers a single blonde hair on her husband’s clothing. She follows the clues and does not like what she discovers.
Reign
Reign is the story of Mary Queen of Scotts. Although it is a historical drama of television, it uses modern music in a period style to really enhance it. It’s highly singable viewing with lots of “court gossip”, plus plotting and bed hopping.
Orphan Black
Orphan Black opens when a girl sees another girl kill herself, only to discover that they are absolutely identical. As the story unfolds, it seems that there are more and more girls looking exactly alike – why is this? This drama / thriller / mystery will keep you watching for series after series.
Call The Midwife
Call The Midwife follows a newly qualified midwife in one of the more deprived areas of London back in the 1950’s and is narrated by her older self. There are many heart in the mouth moments, wondering if Mums and babies will be ok, but is overall a lovely watch.
