Packing for a Disney Cruise is seriously exciting — but before you start zipping up your suitcase, there are a few really important things you need to know. Some items are banned entirely, and others are just a waste of space. In this post, I’m walking you through the things you absolutely should not pack, things you don’t need to bother packing, and the one thing I very nearly packed (that could have got me thrown off the ship!). 😳
Whether you’re sailing from the UK or further afield, this is a must-read before you start packing.

⚠️ What Disney Cruise Line Says You Cannot Bring
Disney Cruise Line has a strict list of prohibited items — and for good reason. Packing any of these could result in delays, confiscation, or even denied boarding. Not ideal.
Here are some of the biggies:
- Weapons of any kind, including toy guns (though plastic pirate swords, lightsabers, and even Thor’s hammer areallowed)
- CBD products, THC products, and marijuana – even if it’s legal where you’re from
- Fireworks and explosives (this includes sparklers!)
- Diving equipment (you can hire what you need at port)
- Blenders, irons, coffee machines, and steamers
- Extension cords or power strips
- Streaming devices like Firesticks or Apple TV
- Over-the-door hangers (magnetic hooks are fine though!)
- Pets (yes, people have tried!)
For the full list, check the Disney Cruise Line official prohibited items policy.
🚫 The One Thing I Nearly Packed That Would Have Got Me In Trouble
Right, let’s talk about my near miss. Here in the UK, I sometimes pop a Trip CBD drink into my suitcase — they’re sold in supermarkets, marketed as relaxing alternatives to alcohol, and completely legal over here.
But CBD is banned on Disney Cruise Line. Even if it’s non-psychoactive. Even if you’ve bought it from Sainsbury’s. If you bring it, it could be classed as an illegal substance under US law, and you could be denied boarding.
Lesson learned. I’ll be leaving those at home.
🧴 What You Can Bring (But Don’t Need To)
Some things are technically allowed, but honestly? You won’t need them — and they’ll just take up valuable suitcase space.
Here’s what you can skip:
- Towels – Disney supplies more than enough pool and beach towels
- Hairdryer – there’s one in the stateroom, and it’s decent!
- Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash – the onboard toiletries smell amazing (unless you have sensitivities)
- Beach toys – you can rent what you need at Castaway Cay or other ports
- Bulky sleep machines – use a white noise app on your phone or tablet instead
✅ Things You Are Allowed (With Conditions)
Some items are allowed onboard, but may require inspection or special permission:
- White noise machines, baby monitors, and humidifiers (subject to safety checks)
- Hair straighteners and curling irons – within power limits
- Coolers under 12x12x12 inches – for meds or baby food only
- Golf clubs – for port adventures only, and must be stored in your stateroom
🍷 What About Alcohol?
You can bring:
- Up to 2 bottles of wine or champagne (or 6 beers) per adult, per port
- It must be in your carry-on, not your checked luggage
- You can only drink it in your stateroom
Anything else (like spirits)? Nope. Leave it at home.
🧳 Quick Packing Wins
- Don’t forget your plug adapters – US and EU sockets are onboard
- Don’t pack extension leads – they’re banned
- Pack magnetic hooks for extra storage
- You’ll find tons of space under the bed for your suitcases
And if you’re like me and travelling with children (especially neurodivergent children), doing a full try-on of outfits beforehand helps avoid meltdowns and sensory issues from scratchy labels or uncomfortable clothes.
