Declutter Before You Organise
The very first step to organising your wardrobe is organising it. If your wardrobe is full of stuff that realistically you will never wear again, you are going to be overwhelmed and out of space before you begin. Check out How To Declutter Step By Step before you organise your wardrobe.
Use Matching Hangers
Using matching hangers in each section of your wardrobe not only make your wardrobe look more orderly and organised, but they actually help to create more space too. Mis-matched hangers in all sorts of shapes will not sit nicely together and will mean that fewer hangers will fit onto the same rail space.

Divide Your Wardrobe

Label Your Sections
While you could just write on your wardrobe dividers, it gives such a satisfyingly neat finish to level them with a label maker.
I bought my label maker in my recent back to school haul, but it’s safe to say that I am in love with it. I used my label maker to label my wardrobe dividers, but these amazing little gadgets are brilliant for organisation and labelling projects all around the home.
If you don’t want to rely on batteries for your label maker, you will need to purchase a charger cable too.
“Next Day Outfit” Hook
Add a hook just inside your wardrobe where you can set out the outfit that you plan to wear the next day. This will save time scrambling for something to wear in the morning and will make the start of your day go much smoother.
I love these nail-free damage-free Command Hooks. Not only can they be used for hanging up your clothes for the next day, but you could use them for hanging up dressing gowns, accessories or other clothes too.
Vest Top Storage
You can maximise your storage by having a specific solution for vest tops. I put most of my summer patterned vest tops on one of these specially designed vest top hangers which stores 8 tops on just one hanger.
The other type of hanger that I use for vest tops is this type with hooks on each hand. I use these when there are multiple vest tops of the same colour, so it doesn’t matter which one I grab, as opposed to the first hanger which easily allows me to select which particular vest top I want to pick.
Legging & Trouser Solutions
I store my leggings on a multi legging hanger. This genius hanger has bars that open at 90 degree ranges to help you easily remove the item that you need.
Space Saving Hanger
I use these space saving hangers not only for wardrobe storage, but for drying on my airing cupboard rail too. Not only do they keep the clothes adequately spaces to ensure that they dry, but when it is time to put clothes away in the correct wardrobe, I can easily transport the clothes to where they need to be too.
Skirt Or Trouser Hangers
These skirt or trouser hangers are great for storage, but also for hanging up for drying. My leggings, for example, are dried by hanging up with one fo these hangers before being transferred to my in wardrobe legging storage.
Use Kallax As Drawers
I have repurposed kallax units from our old house to use as sort of “drawers” in our new built-in wardrobes. I have used a combination or the fabric Drona boxes from IKEA, plus some wire hangers to suspend baskets. The baskets slot in nicely and work almost better than drawers as they can be taken all the way out in order to organise and sort the contents.
