At ten times the price of my last hairdryer, I needed to know if this tool was actually ten times better. More importantly, is it something a total novice like me can use, or is it just way too complicated?

Why I Bought the Shark Flex Fusion
A little backstory—I’ve been using a very basic Amazon hairdryer that, while cheap, has done the job. The problem? It recently started making a noise that my husband kindly informed me might mean it’s about to catch fire. Not ideal, especially since I also use it to dry my daughters’ hair.
So, I started looking for an upgrade. I knew the Dyson Airwrap was out there, but it costs a fortune. The Shark Flex Fusion kept coming up as a great alternative, and after finding it on a good deal, I decided to go for it.
But was it the right choice?
Unboxing & First Impressions
Straight away, I was impressed with how much comes in the box. It’s got multiple attachments, including a hairdryer, straightener, and curling barrels—essentially an all-in-one styling tool. That sounds amazing in theory, but as soon as I opened it, I realised I had no idea where to start.
I’ll be honest—at first glance, the attachments looked overwhelming. There’s a lot to figure out, and while it does come with instructions, it’s not quite as intuitive as I expected.
Putting It to the Test
When I first tried the Shark Flex Fusion, I had a few user errors (translation: I was using it all wrong). But once I started getting the hang of it, I could see why people love it.
- Drying Power: It’s powerful, but it doesn’t feel like it’s frying my hair. It has different modes for wet and dry hair, which is something I’d never considered before.
- Straightening Attachment: I struggled with this at first because I didn’t realise the air was supposed to flow uprather than down. Once I corrected that, it worked well and dried my hair surprisingly fast.
- Curling Barrels: These look similar to the Dyson Airwrap barrels, and they definitely take some practice. I managed to get a few curls straight away, but I could tell there’s a bit of a learning curve.
- Brush Attachment: This one still confuses me. I need to watch some tutorials to figure out exactly how to use it properly.
After a bit of trial and error, I realised I’ve been drying my hair completely wrong for years. I used to use a round brush on soaking wet hair, which apparently is a big no-no and can cause breakage. The Shark Flex Fusion is designed to be gentler on wet hair, and now that I know that, I can already see a difference in how my hair feels.
Is It Actually Worth It?
Here’s my honest take—if you’re expecting to just unbox this and instantly know what you’re doing, you might be disappointed. There’s definitely a learning curve, especially if you’re used to just blasting your hair dry with a basic hairdryer like I was.
That said, I do think it’s worth it—as long as you’re willing to take the time to learn how to use it properly. My hair already feels softer, shinier, and less frizzy, and my husband even commented that it looks shinier than usual. If he notices, that’s saying something.
Final Thoughts
Would I recommend the Shark Flex Fusion? Yes, but with a few caveats.
- If you want something quick and simple, this might not be the best option.
- If you’re willing to learn how to use it, it could replace multiple styling tools in your routine.
- If you struggle with curling your hair, be prepared for a bit of trial and error.
