Summer mornings can feel like a bit of a juggling act — especially when you’re trying to balance working from home, keeping the kids entertained, and stopping the house from descending into complete chaos.
Over the years, I’ve worked out a rhythm that helps us keep things calm(ish), productive, and actually enjoyable — even in a neurodiverse household where executive function can be a bit hit-and-miss

It All Starts the Night Before
The biggest thing that’s helped me feel more in control of our mornings is planning the night before. Every evening (or at least, every evening where I’ve got the energy), I check our family calendar and decide what kind of day we’re heading into.
- If we’ve got an early start or somewhere to be, I prep bags, lay out clothes, and make sure breakfast things are ready.
- If it’s a slow day or we’re not heading out until the afternoon, I know I can take things a bit easier in the morning.
This is where my Organised Life Planner really comes into its own. I use it to map out my day, jot down reminders, and give my future self a little head start.

I also use my Organised Life Binder to track longer-term routines, goals, and things that don’t change day-to-day but still need to be remembered (especially during school holidays).
My Morning Priorities
I’m definitely sharper in the mornings, so I like to get my most important work done first thing. I’ll often pop the kids in front of something calm — a show, a craft activity, or their holiday workbook pages — and jump on my walking pad to start replying to emails, editing, or filming.
Once I’ve ticked off a few work tasks, we ease into the rest of the day — breakfast, a few household jobs, and then whatever plans we’ve got for the day ahead.
If you want a ready-made structure for your mornings (whether it’s a school day, weekend, or school holiday), you can grab my Calm Start Guide totally free at mummyoffour.com/routine. It includes my go-to printable morning checklists for kids — they’ve been an absolute lifesaver in our house.
Chores & House Stuff (Without Melting Down)
Let’s be honest — summer break isn’t the time for perfection. I focus on a “bare minimum reset” each morning: the dishwasher, a load of laundry, and a quick tidy-up of whatever’s driving me the most mad.
I’ve learned to stop expecting myself to do everything. The Survive & Thrive School Holiday Planner that I created inside my Organised Life Club has a really helpful section on prioritising what actually matters and letting go of the rest. If you’re already a member, the Summer Planning Workshop is ready for you on replay — it walks you through the workbook step by step.
Helping the Kids Stay on Track
The summer holiday version of my kids’ printable pack (the Super Awesome School Holiday Pack for Kids) helps my children feel like they have some say in the day. It gives them structure, options, and a sense of routine — without it being rigid or overwhelming.
The pages include:
- “Today I’d like to…” planning prompts
- Daily checklists and fun trackers
- Activity ideas for sunny and rainy days
- A space to write what they’re grateful for or proud of
My kids genuinely enjoy using them — and it stops me being the only one trying to remember everything.
Making It ADHD Friendly
Summer can feel like a lot when your brain doesn’t work in a straight line. Some of the things that help me most:
- Using my walking pad first thing to shift my energy
- Setting timers or using music to anchor different parts of the morning
- Writing down every little thought before it runs off with my brain
- Knowing that if the morning doesn’t go to plan, we can reset
Walking Pad
I don’t expect every day to be perfect. I just try to put enough scaffolding in place so we’ve got a rhythm that supports us, not stresses us out.
