What Is Shrek’s Adventure Really Like?
Shrek’s Adventure London is an interactive, multi-sensory attraction that takes you on an exciting journey into the world of Shrek and his friends. If you’ve ever done something like Amigos in the Afterlife at Alton Towers, it has a similar format—it’s not a ride, but a walk-through experience where you move from room to room, meeting different characters along the way.
Each scene is brought to life with live actors, special effects, themed scents, and fun surprises, making it feel like you’re part of the story. The adventure kicks off with a 4D bus ride hosted by Donkey, followed by a quest through the land of Far Far Away, where you’ll encounter familiar faces like Cinderella, Pinocchio, and Puss in Boots, all while trying to escape the clutches of Rumpelstiltskin.
For families with autistic children, I’d highly recommend checking out the detailed sensory guide available on the Shrek’s Adventure website before your visit. It breaks down what to expect in each room—sights, sounds, smells, and potential triggers—which is incredibly helpful for preparing children who prefer to know what’s coming.
What We Loved:

✅ The humour—there were plenty of laughs, and the actors did a fantastic job of bringing the world of Shrek to life.
✅ Sensory-friendly information available in advance, helping us plan and adjust where needed.
Things to Consider:
- There are some darker scenes and mild ‘chase’ moments, which might be unsettling for younger or more anxious children.
- No filming is allowed inside the attraction, so don’t expect to capture moments from the experience itself.
- While there are no physical rides (aside from the 4D bus), there are vibrating floors, air effects, and sensory surprises, so it’s worth checking the guide if your child has sensory sensitivities.
Final Thoughts
We had a brilliant time at Shrek’s Adventure, and it’s definitely worth doing if your kids love Shrek or interactive experiences. The attraction is recommended for ages 6+, but younger kids who enjoy theatrical experiences will likely love it too.
