If you’re anything like me and you’re always on the lookout for fun days out that don’t break the bank, the Merlin Annual Pass might just become your new best friend. Whether you’ve got thrill-seekers, animal lovers, or little adventurers in your crew, this pass gives you access to some of the UK’s top attractions – and if you plan it right, you can save a fortune.
But I know the info online can be a bit overwhelming (or just super vague!), especially when you’re trying to decide which pass tier is actually worth it. So in this guide, I’ll break it all down in real parent-to-parent terms — from what the pass includes and how to book your visits, to a little-known email glitch that’s caught out even the most organised among us.

Step 2: Purchase Your Passes Online
- Add your chosen pass type to your basket.
- Enter guest details for each person (including a photo if prompted).
- Pay and receive email confirmation.
🧾 Make sure you use an email address you can easily access on your phone—this becomes your Merlin portal login.
Step 3: Set Up Your Merlin Portal Account
- Go to the Merlin Booking Portal: https://www.merlinannualpass.co.uk/booking
- Log in using the email linked to your passes.
- Here, you can:
- View your pass details

🧠 Tip: Book early during school holidays—dates do fill up!
Accessibility & Carer Annual Passes – What You Need To Know
If you’re a parent or carer of someone with additional needs, Merlin offers a fantastic option to make days out more accessible and affordable: a free Merlin Carer Annual Pass.
Here’s how it works:
- When you buy a Merlin Annual Pass for someone who qualifies for a disability access pass, you’re entitled to a free Carer Annual Pass.
- This pass allows a carer to accompany the disabled passholder at no extra cost and is valid for the same tier and duration as the paid-for pass.
- To claim it, you’ll need to upload proof of eligibility such as a DLA or PIP letter (dated within the last 24 months) through the Merlin Accessibility portal.
Once approved, you’ll get an email with instructions to redeem the Carer Pass online. It works just like a regular pass — complete with its own barcode and pass ID — so you can book visits through the Merlin portal alongside the main passholder.
A few helpful things to know:
- The carer pass must be booked onto visits in advance, just like the standard pass.
- If you have multiple carers who support your child or family member at different times, you’ll still only be issued one carer pass per disabled passholder.
- The pass is non-transferable and should be used only when accompanying the disabled guest.
We’ve found the process really smooth, and it’s made a huge difference to how easily we can enjoy days out as a family. If you’re eligible, definitely take advantage of this – it makes the Merlin Annual Pass even better value for families who need that extra bit of support.
You can find the full Carer Pass redemption details and the eligibility criteria here on the Merlin website.
How To Book Your Visits On The Merlin Portal
Once you’ve got your passes sorted, you’ll need to use the Merlin Annual Pass portal to pre-book visits — especially during busy periods. It’s pretty simple once you’re used to it, but here are a few things to keep in mind:
- You’ll need to create a portal account using the same email address you used to buy your pass.
⚠️ Watch Out For the Email Address Glitch
One surprisingly common issue with the Merlin portal is when your passes appear to vanish or not link properly – even though you definitely bought them. This usually happens when you:
- Purchase your pass with one email address
- …then try to log in or make bookings using a different email address
Because the Merlin portal links your passes to the exact email you used at checkout, using a different email — even by accident — means your account won’t “see” your passes. You won’t be able to book anything, and it’ll look like you have no active pass at all.
Solution:
✅ Always use the same email for buying your pass and for logging into the booking portal.
✅ If you realise you’ve used the wrong one, you’ll need to either update your booking email to match, or contact Merlin support to merge accounts or reassign access.
A bit annoying, yes — but once you know, you know! And it saves a lot of stress if you’re trying to book during busy periods or school holidays.
- You can view and manage all your bookings, including changes and cancellations, from inside the portal.
- Some attractions release availability early, so it’s worth checking ahead for school holidays.
Booking Discounted Merlin Hotel Stays
One of the biggest perks of the Gold and Platinum passes is access to heavily discounted short breaks. These are proper stays at on-site hotels like the Alton Towers Hotel, LEGOLAND Resort Hotel, or Chessington Safari Hotel.
To book:
- Head to the Merlin Holiday Club website (you’ll need your pass number to log in).
- Browse offers – discounts can be really good, especially midweek or off-peak.
- Book your discounted stay!
Top tip: Combine these stays with your pass perks like early ride time or free parking, and it’s a fab little getaway that feels like a proper holiday without the big price tag.
Is It Worth It? Real-Life Savings Breakdown
One of the biggest questions I get is: “Do you actually save money with the Merlin Annual Pass?” And the short answer is — yes, if you go even a few times a year, it can absolutely pay for itself (and then some).
Here’s a rough breakdown using 2025 ticket prices at some of the most popular attractions:
Example Day Out (per person, on-the-day prices):
- Alton Towers: £29–£68
- LEGOLAND Windsor: £29–£65
- Chessington: £29–£60
- SEA LIFE Centre: £20–£30
- London Eye: £30+
- Madame Tussauds: £33+
Let’s say you’re a family of four doing:
- 2 theme park days (e.g., LEGOLAND + Alton Towers)
- 1 SEA LIFE visit
- 1 London day (e.g., London Eye + Shrek’s Adventure)
That could easily cost over £500 in standard tickets alone — and that’s before you add on parking, food, or a second visit.
What You’d Pay With Annual Passes:
If you go for the Gold Pass (around £249 per person at full price):
- After just 2–3 visits, you’ve covered the cost of the pass.
- Everything beyond that is a bonus — especially with the discounts on food, shopping, and short breaks.
Plus, don’t forget the free carer passes, free parking on higher tiers, and access to hotel deals through the Merlin Holiday Club. It adds up fast if you plan a few days out a year — and even quicker if you’ve got school holiday adventures or birthdays in mind.
Final Thoughts
Honestly? The Merlin Annual Pass is a fantastic investment in family fun. The key is choosing the right tier for your needs and planning ahead — especially for peak times and hotels.
