Tripods

I have a number of different tripods that I use for filming with my SonyZV1 that I have collected over the years. I am not suggesting by any means that you need all of these tripods, instead, I will share which tripod I use in different filming scenarios in order to help you make a decision which might be best for your vlogging needs.

Ulanzi MT-41 Extendable Vlogging Tripod

The Ulanzi MT41 is an amazing tripod for the Sony ZV1. It’s light weight and portable, plus it extends to get the camera a little further away from you to extend it’s field of new as you vlog. As a huge bonus it has a rotating cold shoe mount on the side for mounting accessories such as an external microphone or light.

Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod

This has been my go-to mini tripod for some time now. When I bought my first G7X camera, I also bought the Joby JB01505-BWW GorillaPod to go with it. To be honest, I didn’t get along with the GorillaPod as I found it harder to get the camera level and the legs kept detaching.

So I invested in the Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod and didn’t look back. This tripod makes it easy to level the camera for static shots, is sturdy and is comfortable to hold while vlogging on the go.

K&F Concept Tripod

The K&F Concept Tripod is my go-to tripod for static filming. It’s the tripod that I use when filming at home, especially for speed cleans and other videos where I need some great angles.

This tripod has a great range of heights, plus the ability to capture over head shots, which are ideal for things like food photos and videos.

This tripod also allows you to take smooth panning shots. Although it is far more bulky than my other tripods, it comes with a carry case bag, so can be folded away to take on location if necessary.

Neewer ZV-1 Camera Base Mount Bracket

Adding this brace to the ZV1 not only adds additional cold shoe mounts for accessories, bit also allows toy to access the battery door even with a tripod attached.

External Microphones

RØDE VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone

The Rode VideoMicro attaches directly to the camera and provides a huge boost in sound quality when you are vlogging near to the camera.

RØDE VideoMicro On-Camera Microphone Case

I have this protective case for storing my Rose VideoMicro and protecting it when travelling.

RØDE Wireless GO – Compact Wireless Microphone System

If you want to record while standing slightly further back from the camera but don’t want to lose sound quality, the Rode Wireless Go is ideal.

One unit attaches to the camera and the other can be positioned where you want to capture the sound. I clip the second unit onto my jeans and plug a lavalier into it (which we will talk about next), but you can also capture sound directly from the Wireless Go as there is a built-in microphone in the transmitter unit. .

RØDE Lavalier GO Professional-Grade Wearable Microphone

This is the lavalier microphone that I plug into the transmitter unit of my Rode Wireless Go. They come in black or white, (so choose the colour which will blend best with your clothing) and have additional fluff wind muffs included.

Audio Splitter Cable

This is the cable that I use when I want to simultaneously record sound from my Rode VideoMicro (attached to the camera) and the Rode Wireless Go (which also captures sound when the transmitter is further away).

Travel Case For RØDE Wireless Go

This case protects my Rode Wireless Go microphone and accessories and keeps all of the bits and pieces protected and organised.

Digital Storage

SD Cards

I have several SD cards in order to record footage from my Sony ZV1, meaning that while one SD card is in use in the camera, you can be editing using another.

SD Card Cases

I use these SD card protection cases to store, protect and transport my SD cards when they are not in my camera.

External Hard Drives

One thing that you will find if you are vlogging with the Sony ZV1, is that you will end up with a lot of footage.

Rather than fill up the internal hard drive of my MacBook, where I edit my videos, I use an external hard drive to store raw footage and completed videos.

Sony ZV1 Camera Protection

Camera Case

This inexpensive neoprene case allows me to place my new Sony ZV1 into the case with the tripod still attached. The lid doesn’t close when I do this, but at least the camera is afforded some protection in my bag.

Screen Protector

I’m a big believer in tempered glass screen protectors for my screen, on my iPhones, iPads and cameras. This tempered glass screen protector for the ZV1 will give protect screen and make it less likely to scratch or shatter.
