If you’re thinking about booking a stay at Chessington World of Adventures Resort and wondering whether it’s worth staying on-site, this guide is for you. We’ve just come back from a magical family mini break and stayed at the Azteca Hotel — and spoiler alert: it was absolutely worth it.
Whether you’ve got a neurodiverse family like ours or you’re just trying to make your trip as smooth as possible, here’s everything I wish I’d known before booking.

Arriving At Chessington & First Impressions
Staying on-site meant we could park easily, check in early, and get straight into the magic without any stress. We were sent a text when our room was ready (before the 3pm check-in time — ours was ready by 12:30!), which was such a nice surprise after the drive from Wales.

The shared entrance to the Azteca Hotel and Safari Hotel is grand and welcoming, with animal-themed decor, a giraffe sculpture in the lobby, and plenty of space to sit and relax. It instantly felt exciting — like the adventure was beginning the moment we walked through the door.

The Azteca Hotel Room Tour (Sleeps 5!)

Our themed family room was perfect for our larger family. We had a double bed for us, bunk beds for the children, and a trundle bed underneath.
The kids even had their own TV and jungle-themed area, which they absolutely loved.

There was loads of storage, a mini fridge, proper air con.

Tea and coffee making facilities were provided.

The theming was so well done — think jungle animals, wooden textures, and fun wall art, all continuing into the bathroom. It really did feel like a mini adventure.

Dinner At Zafari Bar & Grill

On our first evening, we ate at Zafari Bar & Grill, located inside the Safari Hotel.

The atmosphere was lovely — a relaxed sit-down restaurant with warm lighting and animal print details, plus views over the Wanyama Reserve if you’re lucky with your table.

The menu was great for both kids and adults — I had the superfood salad with chicken, and the children were more than happy with their pizza and chips. Service was friendly, portions were generous, and we used our Merlin Annual Pass to get a handy discount too.

Temple Restaurant Buffet Breakfast (And Dinner!)

We also ate at the Temple Restaurant, which is in the Azteca Hotel — and it was such a hit with the kids. The restaurant is brilliantly themed with jungle walls, soft lighting, and even animal sound effects.

Breakfast was included with our stay and it was seriously impressive — full English, cereals, fruit, pastries, pancakes, and even alternative milk options. There’s loads of choice, which makes it easy to cater for fussy eaters or allergies.

We also had dinner here on our second night and loved the buffet setup. There were plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free options too.

Hotel Entertainment & Chill Out Spaces
After a busy day in the park, the hotel entertainment was just what we needed. There was a mini stage with beanbags for the kids to chill out and enjoy a movie, and other little corners where they could relax before bedtime.

It felt calm, friendly, and very family-oriented — exactly what you want after a full-on theme park day.
Savannah Splash Pool & Hotel Gym
Guests at both hotels have access to the Savannah Splash Pool, which is perfect for a quick splash or swim between park days. It’s an indoor water play area with slides, fountains, and a little something for everyone.
There’s also a gym onsite — handy if you’re trying to stay on track while travelling (my husband even managed a workout while we were there!).
Extra Perks Of Staying On-Site
As well as the convenience of being steps from the park entrance, staying in the Azteca or Safari Hotel comes with a few added bonuses:
- Free parking for hotel guests
- Early Ride Time in the park before it opens to the public
- Hotel guest entrance for a smoother start to the day
Honestly, these perks made our days run so much smoother — especially with neurodiverse children who benefit from calmer, less crowded experiences.
Merlin Annual Pass Discount
And finally, if you’re a Merlin Annual Pass holder like we are, don’t forget to book your hotel through the Merlin Holiday Club portal. We were surprised to find that staying on-site worked out cheaper than the local Premier Inn — especially once you factor in the parking, breakfast, and Early Ride Time.

Final Thoughts
If you’re heading to Chessington with your family — especially if you have little ones, neurodiverse children, or just want to make things easier — staying on-site is 100% worth it.
It turned a great day out into a full-on magical experience, and we can’t wait to go back.
