Breaking news! Tangled: The Musical has returned to the Disney Cruise Line! Opening night for the much loved show was a complete surprise for guests boarding the Disney Magic At Sea in Southampton last night, who enjoyed the first performance of the show since the pandemic.

What Is Tangled: The Musical?
Tangled: The Musical brings to the stage the classic & beloved animated Disney film, Tangled. Set in the kingdom of “Corona” (honestly, that’s where Rapunzel lives, you couldn’t make this stuff up), Tangled: The Musical is jam packed with all of the songs from the movie that we know and love.
On top of that, the production treats us to 3 new songs composed especially for the show by Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken (known for Beauty & The Beast, The Lion King, Tangled and other Disney classics) and Grammy Award-winning lyricist Glenn Slater (The Little Mermaid, Sister Act, School Of Rock & Tangled).
Tangled Sails Again
When the pandemic closed down the world, including the Disney Cruise Line, the cast of Tangled had no idea when they would next be able to perform together. On Wednesday 4th August when the Disney Magic departed from Southampton, Tangled: The Musical finally got it’s first opening night since the Disney Cruise Line resumed sailing.
Disney Magic At Sea UK Staycations
Disney Magic At Sea is a “staycation” cruise open only to fully vaccinated UK adults and their children (providing their children pass a PCR test). Due to covid restrictions, the cruises were billed as having just one production of “Disney Dreams” on board that each guest was permitted to book in advance and attend once.
The Disney Magic At Sea Cruises have been running at reduced capacity to allow for social distancing. To minimise risk they are all “sea days” with no port adventures, so have been dubbed by some the “cruise to no-where”.
Guests Were Surprised And Thrilled By Tangled Being Added The The Line Up
Prior to the announcement of the return of Tangled: The Musical to the Disney Cruise Line line up, test cruises had already taken place from various ports, plus scheduled 2,3 & 4 night cruses from Liverpool.
Once guests boarded the Magic for their 2 night cruise on 4th August 2021, they were delighted that Tangled: The Musical had been added to their cruise navigator app with the opening night performance taking place that night.
Cast members revealed via their Instagram stories that rehearsals had been going on behind the scene for some time, but that no public announcement of the show’s return could be made until restrictions allowed.
Will Tangled: The Musical Be Available On Every Disney Cruise?
Tangled: The Musical is listed on the Disney Cruise Line website as showing only on the Disney Magic which is sailing around the UK until October, then returning to the Caribbean for Winter 2021.
